Project Introduction
City District Government Karachi launched Wireless Hybrid Video Security Surveillance Project in January 2008 and moved with great speed to complete the first phase in June 2008. The whole project took only six months to complete with all International standards.

Wireless Video Security Surveillance project is unique and this is the first of its kind in Pakistan. The wireless network coverage area is 80 Sq Km, with fiber optic back up, mainly 140 cameras on different major locations of the megapolis.

Objectives

Monitor the traffic flow and clear congestion on the roads and introduce the traffic management system through world best available technology.
Guard the CDGK infrastructure such as flyovers, under passes and bridges.
Keep the general crime under control.
Provide timely assistance to mobile mobile CDGK work force to effectively encounter security of Citizen through video security cameras; to monitor and help speed up the civil work in order to complete and delivere the project on time.
Closely coordinate and work with Traffic police along with Sind crime Police in command and control center in order to respond law & order situation effectively.

In Phase 2 of this project we will install LPR (License Plate Recognition) Biometric, Face Recognition and RFID; it will be very easy to identify movements of individuals, cars and other types of transit on streets. In addition, it will be difficult for anyone to evade the law enforcement.

Network Structure

Network is made up off following main components:

Wireless WiMAX Technology.
Licensed Frequency
130 TB Video Storage solutions for up to one month recording
Network Operation Center ( NOC )
Command & Control Center
120 Employees.
24 X 7 X 365 monitoring by the surveillance staff and concerned authorities.

Technology

In this project world latest, WiMAX Technology has been used for cameras site and all technology hardware and software have been imported from USA and European countries.

Fiber Optic

In order to provide back up and back haul to all four BTS CDGK laid out fiber to give redundancy to whole network.

Licensed Frequency

In order to provide the foolproof security and reliability. The frequency is not shared with any other network so that the safety of the project is never compromised.

Video Storage Solution

In this project all cameras live Video coverage can be stored for 30 days of Video recording on IBM SAN Servers This will be then transferred into CDGK archives for further storage.

Network Operation Center (NOC)

The NOC is fully protected by steel wall and equipped by Fire detection and suppression system according to international standard.

Command & Control Center

Command and Control Center is designed where operators and security officials can monitor the entire Karachi and beyond. The whole center has been planned with future expansion. Currently the 120" video wall has been installed to watch live views from all camera, powered by 24/7 generator back up electricity. All command & center entrances and exits are controlled by Biometric / RFID access devices. The operators have the capability not just to watch but to control the operation of the cameras from there.

Cameras

Mostly cameras are PTZ camera whose movement can be controlled to view details as desired. These are high-speed dome IP cameras and all of them operate from Command & Control Center.

Employees

All employees are highly trained on system by foreign company. The engineers and staff are in Command Center 24/7.

Project Conclusion

This entire project was inspired by the fact that it is the need of the time. Technology if properly implemented can very effectively give results which would have been impossible to accomplish. The CDGK has always believed in this method of delivery where a proper system is in place so that the continuity is guaranteed and professionals are brought in to do things effectively. This project will eventually provide ample security, information and safety to citizens of Karachi that it will not only bring down crime rate but also improve the overall delivery and performance of Public officials. We believe that this project's growth is unlimited and a pillar in any city's environment given the current condition of the world.

Electronic Library Project:

GCS (Pvt) Ltd completed Electronic Library project for KBCA/ CDGK in May, 2008.

Asian Cricket Cup Security Network:

GCS (Pvt) Ltd provided complete Video Security Surveillance Camera Network for Asia Cricket Cup tournament in National Stadium Karachi in June, 2008.

NED University of Engineering and Technology.

GCS (Pvt.) Ltd. has its own fibre optics network running through the heart of the megapolis and covering well even the sub-urban terrain . The cumulative length of laid fibre is km. The company is contributing in research and development in the country as can be witnessed from the fact that the fibre optic network provides connectivity to the ace engineering institution NED University and hence is making rich contributions in providing a strong basis for culture of academic research and development.

National Bank Of Pakistan (Head Office)

GCS (Pvt.) Ltd. has recently signed a services contract for the maintenance of, a network comprising of a well over 100 security cameras installed in and around the premises of National Bank Pakistan.

Catcos Pvt. Ltd.

GCS (Pvt.) Ltd. recently completed a sub project consisting of installation of security cameras in one of the reputed call centers of local market.

Beacon House School System

With ever increasing occurrences of terrorism against soft targets especially in the back drop of recent deplorable attacks at premier educational institutions around the country, the security needs for educational institutions can not be over emphasized. In this connection, GCS recently signed a services contract for maintenance of a number of security cameras installed for the security of Beacon House students.

NHA (National Highway Authority)

National Highway Authority is a reputed public sector organization. GCS provided security gadgets to NHA like the walkthrough gates.

Civil Hospital

Civil Hospital Karachi is situated in the heart of the megapolis. GCS (Pvt.) Ltd. installed security cameras for the safety of staff and patients. It has been witnessed that in the past, specially during emergency situation hospitals are thronged by an uncontrollable which may become a security risk.

Mixet Technologies Pvt. Ltd

Mixet Technologies is a prominent software development organization. GCS (Pvt.) Ltd. installed security and surveillance solution here as well.

QICT (Qasim International Container Terminal)

QICT is a situated in the sub-urban terrain of Karachi. GCS (Pvt.) Ltd. provided inter department wireless connectivity to QICT. GCS and QICT are also expected to soon ink a deal regarding the maintenance of wireless network.

GCS (Pvt.) Ltd. installed fire detection & suppression system within the premises of Federal Interior Ministry of Pakistan.
